Playability :
Two users are invited to move freely in a dark space with headphones. In real time, a voice continuously gives the distance in centimeters separating them. A line projected on the ground connects them dynamically.
Argument :
Inspired by the book of Edward T. Hall, in "The Hidden Dimension" (1966), the interactive installation "Zero Inches" is an interrogation of our immediate perceptions.
In its extreme sensitivity to movement, the voice announcement is constantly adjusted, the voice is choppy and hesitant. The sound effect is stuttering.
We are in a constant state of repositioning, in perpetual re-calculation because we're referenced, compared to the body of the other whose position is a variable, as is ours. "Zero Inches" interrogates and emphasizes spontaneity in the relationship between two bodies in space.
